Things to do

Highlights include the Cathedral of Saints Gervasius and Protasius, the Oratorio di Santa Maria dei Bianchi, home to Perugino’s Adoration of the Magi, small artisan shops, bakeries, and wine bars.Every walk feels different depending on the ligt, the time of day, and the season.

Follow the footsteps of Perugino

Città della Pieve is the birthplace of Pietro Vannucci, better known as Il Perugino, one of the great masters of the Italian Renaissance. Several of his works can be seen throughout the town, making it a must-visit destination for art lovers.

A self-guided Perugino walk is an easy and rewarding way to discover both art and architecture.

The Palio dei Terzieri

One of the most important events in town is the Palio dei Terzieri, a historic festival that transforms Città della Pieve into a medieval spectacle. During the Palio, the town’s three historic districts or Terzieri compete against each other in a series of events and competitions. The locals wear traditional costumes while flag throwers, drummers, and parades fill the streets. The Palio ends with a dramatic archery competition which determines the winning Terziere.

The Palio is not just a show — it’s deeply felt by the community and offers visitors a rare chance to experience living tradition and local pride.

Theatre & cultural season

Città della Pieve has an active cultural life throughout the year, centred around its historic Teatro degli Avvaloranti.

The theatre season typically includes plays and contemporary theatre, classical and modern music concerts and also special performances and cultural evenings.

Smaller events, talks, and exhibitions also take place in town halls, churches, and cultural spaces, especially outside the high summer season.

Markets, festivals & seasonal events

Throughout the year, Città della Pieve hosts a weekly local market (Saturday morning), food and wine events celebrating seasonal products and also a series of art exhibitions and craft fairs.

Each season brings its own atmosphere — from lively summer evenings to quieter, cozy winter days.
